Does storing food in pots and pans in the refrigerator poison the food?

My mom used to always tell me to put left overs in a tupperware and place in the fridge. She said the if you put the pot or pan in the fridge to store the left overs, it would poison the food. My boyfriend does this all the time and I've always refused to eat the food. Well, now I'm sick and he made some chicken soup. He put the soup in the fridge, in the pot and gave me some for work today. I'm scared to eat it because of what Mom used to always say but I can't seem to find anything on the net about it. Has anyone heard of this? Is it true that refrigerated food in pots poisons you?

No that does not make you sick. I do that all the time.

Its best to not store in the pan longer than 24 hours but if he did the soup last night you aren't sick from the way it was stored.

I think the warning came about because pans were made of coarse metals and iron pots and that can leech into food.

Most pots now are stainless steel.

no it will not make you sick i do it all the time everyone does it and i have never heard of anyone getting sick from that people even leave food out on the stove in the pot all night and don't get sick but i don't eat that stuff because it wasn't put in the fridge as long as its in the fridge its fine pot or tupperware

The newer pans won't make you sick. They don't corrode as easily. However you should store food in plastic containers/tupperware to keep the refridgerator odor out of your food. Pan tops aren't tight enough to keep out the air. It can ruin the food. It won't make you sick but just tell him to start putting it in plastic ware. Good luck

No. But do not cook acid foods like apples or tomatoes in aluminum pots. The aluminum leaches out into the food and aluminum is found in the plaques in the brains of alzheimer's patients. I don't want to take any chances.

No. Although I wouldn't store tomato or acid-based foods in a metal pot, just b/c there may be a chemical reaction that makes it taste funny (but not kil you!).

I've NEVER heard of this!

I always store my food in the pots and pans I cook it in because I always lose my Tupperware tops! haha

Eat your soup!

Only if it's stored in aluminum. Stainless steel or enamel is ok.

i do not like to store food which is cooked always make it fresh..........or make in small quantities
