Thank you for your answers.
The biggest problem I've had with second-hand clothes is the funny smell. Just make sure they don't smell like smoke...it's very hard to remove.
I like Arm&Hammer detergent for my kids clothes because it's pretty good at removing stains and dirt. I would wash the clothes in hot water (if they can take it) and let them soak for 20 minutes or so, before you start the agitating. Make sure you dry them thoroughly. Between the hot water, hot dryer and hot iron, any germs should be long gone!
Get them dry cleaned maybe? I wouldn't worry too much...just read the labels and wash 'em! A consigment shop is what it is...if you don't want or think slohtes that was previously worn by someone is good enough than you shuld just shop first hand at a reg. store!
for children try dreft.
its really for babies but i still use it when im washing things i just bought or have been somewhere scummy.
kitson! its really popular for miley+ ashley
miley loves juicy couture
ashley loves free city
Well, you don't need to feed them different foods. Kitten food doesn't contain any nutrients that adult food doesn't, and vice versa.
"Kitten" food is little more than a marketing ploy by cat food mfrs. It makes you think it's necessary to feed kittens "kitten" food - but it's not. Kittens and adults need the same nutrients. Kittens need slighly more which can typically be accomplished by feeding them more. Which you should do because they require a ton more calories than adults.
If you feed them both a good quality canned food, both will thrive.
From my blog:
This site has provided some info: http://www.maxshouse.com/feline_nutrition.htm.
Energy Requirements for Kittens and Adult Cats
Age kcal/lb body wt
Kittens: 10 weeks 113
20 weeks 59
30 weeks 45
40 weeks 36
Adult Cats: Inactive 18
Active 20-30
Pregnant 45
Lactating* 56--145
So it appears that kittens need many more calories than adults. So why not just feed them more?
This site has another table showing the minimum protein allowances for cats v. kittens. It boils down to kittens needing 4% more protein than adults. There were other items in there, but it didn't vary widely at all. Kittens need the same amount of fat. They need a little more calcium, phosphorous and magnesium.
So in essence, it appears that so long as the food is adequately high in protein, your kitten will get what it needs - regardless of marketing hype.
Put one in a room with his/her food and shut the door. Your older cat is just trying to be the boss and will probably continue to do this even after the kitten has grown up. My dominate cat hates to see the dog eat and will stare at her which makes her nervous .
Hi you can try feeding the cats in different rooms of the house. I know it's hard when my kittnes were small their mother would eat their food and leave hers i would also mix them together but that's how the mother got a little fat lol now that the kittens are over a year old they are all on the same food. So feed the kitten in one rom or your house and the older cat in the other room and try to make it a consistant time of day my cats al know they eat in the morning and at 4 or so in the afternoon. hope this helps!
You can fed them in separate rooms until your kitten is 5-6 months old. At that age it is perfectly ok for her to eat the same food as the older cat , as 99% of kittens don't need to be on kitten food till 1yr no matter what the bag says.
I feel you. I have 5 cats and 2 are too aggressive and pushy at dinnertime, so they are all fed in different rooms. Let me know if you figure out a secret :)
We got a small trash container that has a flip top and a bucket inside. It holds about one gallon. The container is black which is almost invisible in our kitchen. It ts the best solution we have come up with. Food scraps, coffee grounds, flower stems and cuttings go in and we empty every two or three days. No problems with odors or ants.
We use an empty 2 litre ice cream container with the original lid and empty it every day. Wash out with detergent after emptying
composting-is rotting of materials -make a 3 by 4 pit
with sides,for grass clippings,coffee grounds,leaves
potatoe peels,etc...........
Who is going to pay the costs of shipping the food to Africa? And do you realize that, by donating food, you are taking money from poor farmers and food stall sellers who are desperately trying to make a living in Africa?
It's too expensive to gather and transport food from individual donors outside of a country -- it's much more cost-effective and beneficial to the community to buy the food *in the country* and distribute it to those in need. It's even MORE beneficial to pay for experts to train food growers there to grow more and better food.
Some organizations, like CARE international, are even refusing large food donations from governments, because of how much it hurts the local economies, and is asking governments to, instead, purchase LOCAL food in Africa (or elsewhere) to feed the LOCAL community.
You can gather food and donate it locally, to your local food shelter.
why not start at home and feed the starving people in the us. donate to a church or homeless shelter
Instead of sending food which takes away from Africas local economy (and their own food/digestive systems are much different from ours) why not send something useful like pencils?
With a better shot at education, they can pull themselves out of poverty.
I would highly recommend Blue Seal Show Hutch Delux, but it only comes in 50 lbs. If where you live doesn't sell Blue Seal, you can always try to find Bunny-16 near your local pet store or online. That's just my opinion. I used to feed my bunny both Bunny-16 and Blue Seal and when I took it to the vet, he'd always say he was a healthy bunny and it made me proud. My bunny died, though...
Hey! Aw, I am so happy you got your new bunny. I hope everything turns out okay! Kona, Maui, and Malabu are all wonderful names and you have a creative mind!
try a feed mill, like the ones that have horse feed and the like. Rabbit food comes cheap there, and is usually safe, ask the farmers.
What brand of food did you get?
One of the best quality is Oxbow. It's good for both the hay (which rabbits need unlimited amounts for) and pellets (timothy based ones, not alfalfa.
http://www.oxbowhay.com/index.sp?page=index
I see it everywhere when I get my guniea pig food. I usually get my guinea pig food at a grocery store or at Target. It is cheaper there.
P.S. I said supermarket dog food, not some super organic food that just so happens to be for dogs, created by long haired organic hippies in california.
THANKS
There is no good dog food at the supermarket. Therefore a best can't be recommended to you. Essentially if you won't want to buy the "California Hippie" dog food then you'll be purchasing a low quality food that is nothing but filler and by-products.
The bests food are Innova, Wellness, Taste of the Wild, so forth. Pretty much if you haven't heard of it and it costs a little extra then it's most like good.
I've a blog that helps with things like this, check it out for more information:
http://finddogsuppliesonline.blogspot.com/
None, but that doesn't mean you need to go for "super organic food" -- just go to a feed store (Ranch Hand in our area) or small pet store and get some decent dry kibble with meat listed as the first ingredient, no corn meal junk.
I feed mine Canidae Chicken and Rice, it's very good - you simply go to the Canidae website, type in your zip code, and they give you the places it is sold in your neighborhood.
According to an experienced specialist in animal nutrition, should be listed as at least 30 percent. Keep in mind that dogs utilize fat well and some nutrition specialists think that at least 18 percent is ideal.
You can check this best dog food which my tom is using since last 2 yrs. >>>> http://www.agritura.com/index.php/cat/c380_Dog-Food.html
There are no good supermarket brands.
I feed Flint River but I have no idea if there are any long haired freaky people that work at the factory, nor would I care, its the best food for my dog.
I have seen some pretty strange folks in the supermarkets.
the best is iams
if you consider target a supermarket. save mart might have it but the best dog food is iams that they sell at the supermarket if your willing to pay the Extra money
Avoderm is good. Its avocado based, not to pricey, and great for your dog. It doesn't have a lot of filler, and gives them a really nice coat.
I always used Purina dog food...
don't anymore cause my doggy has to have prescription dog food now cause she has very bad allergies that other dog foods don't work with her :)
If you're buying at the supermarket, hit the meat section. Make sure you do your research on raw feeding.
you will not find it there
save some money on non organic food now but wait a couple of months and your dog will feel like crap
Some grocery stores carry IAMS, else Purina One is pretty good.
Eukanuba, Science Diet, or Iams. You don't want to get him anything that's high in filler, as it will lead to disgusting loose stool. It will make him lethargic, and borderline incontinent.
Avoid Purina One. Check with your vet, but I've never had any trouble with Eukanuba. You may be pushing it on the conversion to adult food, though. Give him another few months, as you generally don't want to convert them to adult food before they're a year old. My boxer loves Eukanuba.
Kibbles and Bits
Umm.....
How about the cans filled with meat?
Are you batter dipping or is this prebreaded/battered stuff?
When putting in freshly battered/breaded food, don't just drop it in.
I hold the piece, hold the top and let most of it go into the oil until the coating starts to cook, that makes it float a little & hardens most of the coating so it doesn't stick.
I really use a non-stick pan and med-low temp.. and it gets browing without sticking on pan.. hope this help and invite me for dinner? HHHHAAAA
I always dip my basket into the oil and then put the food in. That seems to help me, but I get stuff stuck from time to time too.
What inexpensive foods give energy and brain power? Thanks.
Believe it or not....peanut butter! Slap some on an english muffin and the protein from the pb, and the carbs from the em, should get you through the rest of the day! ; )
Fish!
Just eat a protein bar at work then eat a big meal when you get home. Or fruits and veggies with a fat free dipping sauce. That is if its that fast paced you don't have time to go out and get a good lunch or nuke one in the microwave.
bananas
There are some great websites where you can get pretty much any recipe you want! Here are a few:
Good luck, and enjoy!
You can get many home made recipes here, asian and western type of food
CHICKEN ADOBO
1 whole chicken (cut into eighths)
1 whole garlic (chopped)
olive oil or vegetable/corn oil
1 tsp ground black pepper
4 whole black pepper cloves
3 dried bay leaves
1 cup soy sauce
1 cup vinegar
**7up/sprite
**1 whole lemon (cut into 4)
Remember to wash your chicken very well. We recommend using the lemon (in ingredients) to scrub all over the chicken parts and rub some salt into it as well.
Heat oil and add all of the garlic, and cook until garlic is lightly browned. Add chicken and saute until the chicken is beginning to tenderize.
Add ground black pepper, whole black pepper cloves, soy sauce, and vinegar, and let simmer for 25-35 mins or until chicken is done.
Make sure to add more vinegar or soy sauce until it suits your taste (should be a bit tangy). When chicken is tender, add some 7 up if you want a sweeter taste, and let simmer for 5 more mins.
Serve over rice.
Try seafood kimchi chigue(soup)

If your kitty has a sensitive stomach your may want to try a presciption cat food, IE Science Diet Sensitive Stomach
Or...we had this same problem with our pet, and the only food he could keep down was meat baby food (Gerbers chicken, turkey, veal) mixed with rice cereal baby food. We ended up feeding him this 10 years.
But definately, have the vet check out your kitten.
Hope things go better!
I have the same problem with my cat. He has hairball problems and actually ended up with a blockage in his small intestine which had to be surgically removed. He is now on Science Diet Hairball Control. You might want to take the cat to the vet to make sure she doesn't have the same issues my little guy did. But if she is playing and drinking and using the litter box, she is probably fine.
Please, get her to the vet asap! It could be something wrong with a part of her digestive tract or something. Take care.
You must stay away from cheap cat food. Many cats are sensitive to any grain in their diet - most dry cat foods. The cheap canned food (Fancy Feast, Whiskas, Friskies, Science Diet (not cheap) are made with by-product meat which is made up up the trash parts of the chicken (feet, heads, feathers, etc) which is labeled "unfit for human consumption" and treated with toxic chemicals by law.
Try a more wholesome food. Canned foods can be Natural Balance, Blue, Lick Your Chops, Wellness, Avoderm etc. which use "human-grade" meat. Natural Balance, CA Natural, Solid Gold, Felidae etc. make good dry foods.
Rice is sometimes used to help stop diarrhea - it will have no effect on the vomiting.
I assume that you have had a vet check her out?? There are meds that can be given that will help the throwing up if nothing too serious is wrong. There are ways to fix some problems that may be wrong with the cat's stomach.
I would take her to the vet, it sounds like she has some sort of stomach issue, if she's throwing everything up. My cat is a finicky eater, so I've had to try a few different kinds of food until I found one she liked. But cats will still hurl every so often, especially if they eat a lot of grass....
She may be sick so you should get her looked at. But, if you don't think that she is sick maybe try Science Diet Sensitive Stomach. But, I would take her to the vet first if I were you. GOOD LUCK!! ;-D
i hate mean but if you r going to keep the cat get to a vet if was a stray it probably has parasites or cancer
Take her to a vet. A vet will definately know a good remedy. Until then, how about trying only white rice instead of mixing it with her food? And I'm thinking that they make a special kitten formula, which would probably go really easy on her stomach. Good luck!
I think you might need to take the cat to the vet and get her checked out.
Geriatric cats are prone to a number of diseases and conditions, and one of the more common ones is Fatty Liver Disease, which is an accumulation of fats (lipids) in the liver tissue. The disease progresses this way:
A previously overweight cat stops eating for whatever reason
Lacking food, the body starts sending fat cells to the liver to process into lipoproteins for fuel.
Cats' livers are not terribly efficient at processing fat, and much of the fat is stored in the liver cells.
Left untreated, eventually the liver fails and the cat dies. Whatever the cause, the symptoms are common: A previously overweight older cat suddenly becomes anorexic (quits eating), loses weight, and may salivate excessively or vomit. The cat may become very lethargic and may show jaundice (yellowing of eyes and skin). However, anorexia and weight loss can also be symptoms of other diseases, such as liver cancer or pancreatic disease, and FLS (Fatty Liver Syndrome) can only be accurately diagnosed conclusively through tests. A complete blood profile may indicate increased liver enzymes, and the diagnosis can be confirmed with a liver biopsy done under light anesthesia, with a large needle through the skin.
My mother would give our kittens (now 10 years old) an egg yolk with warm milk.
My kitten was about 8 months old when he started doing this. I took him to the vet and he had a growth inside his chest cavity so his esophagus was so narrow he eventually couldn't get any food past. It was so sad, they said he could get chemotherapy treatments but the cost was so expensive I sadly had my little buddy put to sleep. He lost so much weight.
You might try worming her, but the cheap cat food isn't helping. Try cottage cheese, and if that doesn't help, get out the checkbook and go to a vet. That was nice of you to take in a stray, there are far too many.
If you haven't taken your cat to the vet do. I have had my cat for 14 years and she vomits after she eats. I have taken her to different vets and nothing is wrong. I finally got her on the special fur ball formula since she had a lot of those too. It's more expensive but less "presents" around the house. From what I have been told is when she eats and then drinks water it expands in her small tummy and she throws it up. She weighs maybe 6 lbs she has always been small. But get the better food no cheap stuff and it should help reduce the amount of times your cat vomits, it has made a big difference for my cat at least.
a vet check is the first stop...then the best food is Eukanuba lamb and rice dry food...it is nutritionally the best and your cat will thrive...also the wont eat as much and be in better health.
But a few years ago I met a cat that threw up also it had a thyroid problem and could digest some foods only...and then every so many weeks would have to change for a few days and then be okay again..once the thyroid problem got some help this problem was much better.
If several days go on and the throwing up continues, she will get weaker and that can cause a liver problem. Best to get to a vet quick. She might could have just gotten into some time of poison that could be making her vomit too.
My cat loves to eat lots of human food if you can spare them some chicken not raw or maybe some roast lamb, but if you don't have that they love Tuna or my cats favourite ham and luncheon
Hope this helps
cheers
My cat has a very delicate stomach so I can't give her much human food. She can eat tuna that has no oil, white chicken meat, shrimp, cheese, clear lean ham, yogurt and skim milk. I never give her a lot of these things, just something once a month maybe, and then only one thing in a very small quantity. I know everyone is saying that cats are lactose intolerant, but the skim milk does not bother her at all.
I mostly feed Papoose dry food, but he loves chicken, canned salmon, and tuna;I only give him tuna with oil because the oil is good for his dry skin problem.
My cats like unsalted water canned tuna. Do you give them dry food? That is much better for their teeth and gums then wet food (no matter how healthy and natural it is).
The only thing extra our cat gets is the odd bit that it steals from the dog and the empty tuna can. She won't eat raw meat unless she catches it herself.
My kitty cat loves tuna and Dory fish, she also likes to pinch roast chicken
My cat is into chocolate. Hershey kisses.
Antigone is right...give them a real treat with Tuna or even a bit of Salmon..but don't overdo.
GMO's basically depend on how easy it is to manipulate the plant's genetic code. For example, canola is pretty viable for transgenic therapy, but certain other plants are more resistant. Based on supply and shortage also, we can decide what we need.
Also, is Neutro a good brand?
Thank you for your help!
The recommended serving is the total amount to feed a cat per day. Since she is still a baby, break that 1/3 cup into a couple of smaller meals a day. Don't give her 1/3 cup each serving. You'll wind up with a chunky cat.
cats STOP eating when they are full. i leave dry food and water available for my cats at all times, and feed them WET food twice a day. i have had cats my whole life, and i cant imagine not leaving them dry food all the time!!!!!
Yes that is a good brand of food. I have a 16 yr old cat I feed him wet and dry and leave it there all day for him cause he eats a little at a time.
If he's eating at their restaurants with an eye towards promoting their restaurant, THEY should be paying for the meals.
Meals taken in the vicinity of your tax home are not deductible. A food critic might have an argument but your hubby does not.
I have found the Grant's ant stakes to be effective in getting ants out of my home. There is no way a cat can get into them and be poisoned.
If you are leaving dry food out for your cat it is really not a good idea. It is much healthier for the cat to have two "meals" a day even if your return in the evening is somewhat erratic. The cat will not starve waiting for your return.
When dry food is out all the time the cat's digestive system is always in an "on" mode. This means that blood and digestive juices are constantly in the cat's stomach and the healthy fresh blood is not available for the maintenance of other important organs in the body.
This sounds to me like Ghost Ants. I had them in my kitchen in Florida. If you spray for them, they will just separate and make another nest, giving you two nests and it increases exponentially with each spraying. Go to a do-it-yourself pest control store and tell them you have Ghost Ants. There is a special mixture you can put down that the ants will take back and kill the nest. In the meantime, put your cats bowl in a shallow pan with water. Don't make it too deep are too far out from around the cat's bowl, in other words, don't make your cat have to reach too far to get it's food. Good luck, these type of ants are a real pain in the you-know-what.
The ants are probably coming from another apartment. Tell your landlord about the problem. He should get an exterminator to spay the entire building. If your landord refuses or the ants keep coming, then try putting the food up on top of something, like a sturdy box or a coffee table. Show the cat where it is at a few times and he/she will find it in the future. Don't worry, the cat will be able to get to it when you are not at home. Without the food on the floor, the ants may not be able to find it.
Ants seem to come from nowhere. try putting the food in the middle of saucer of water, ants will drown and you have them running through the food.
put your cats bowl in a plate of water. the ants can not swim.
have someone come in and spray yours house..because if ants are around your cats food...they are probably around yours!! move your cats dish somewhere else...maybe high up if your cat is a jumper
Ants like cat food, I have had this problem many times with my cats. I ended up moving the cat's food bowl up onto a part of the kitchen counter that we didn't use. This seemed to solve the problem, we had to do a bit more cleaning because of them being on the counters, but it worked, if you don't mind this situation, I say it's the best choice. Other than that, I don't know what to tell ya.
Find the soarce of where the ants ae coming from, vaqcum and mop every day, use Mr. Clean. if you find the soarce of where the ants are coming from, and it is an area where the cat cannot be poisioned, buy a couple ant traps. Remember, no cat should come in contact with that poision. Also feed your cat and then pick up the bowl. Put water on a place where it is in a different area, even the food too, like up on a coffee tabe you won't use anymore. It will work.
You do NOT want to pour motor oil around your house. You do NOT want to spray and poison around where you have the food, even if the food is not there at the time! Many poisons have a residual chemical that will stay there for weeks, and if the cat comes in contact with it, it will make it sick!
What you should do is this. Spray the OUTSIDE of your house with a residual chemical. Something like Home Defense that you get a Walmart would be fine. It isn't professional strength, but I really don't think you need that strong of a spray. When you spray the outside, you need to pay special attention to the window frames, door frames, and any water spigots. This is how most ants get into the house. The second thing you need to do, and I have seen others tell you to do this, is to put the food bowl into a pie tin or other saucer that has water in it. Ants can't swim, so they won't get to the food. Once their food source is cut off, they will no longer be a problem.
Good luck!
I usually only have an ant problem in the beginning of spring and I put the ant drops right in the corners and place something in front of the area so my cats can't get at the poisen. Even a heavy old ashtray or bowl. The ants go for the drops because it's sweet and attracts them and then they take it back to the nest and that kills them. Believe it or not I hate doing this to the ants but I don't want them in my home. I usually only have to do for for a couple of weeks and it's over, they don't come back. Since you live in an apartment could you ask your landlord for help And one other thing put the food in a different area when you do this try somewhere in the living room, put a placemat down and this should help with any mess. Good luck
If you place your cats bowl inside a larger bowl that is filled with water, then the ants will not be able to get to the food. Hope it helps.
I would pick the food up and then spray wait a couple hours, then clen it up and then repeat the process. make sure you spray the edges of the of the wall and floor and little creveces. try putting the food on carpet or a rug and see if that helps.
I think the problem is that the ants are actually in the bag of cat food. I keep the food in an air-tight container to keep the bugs out.
If that doesn't work, try feeding your cat 3-4 smaller meals a day so that no food gets left out for more than a few minutes.
u should spray any remover near the area
or you could move the kitty's bowl
This is illegal, but it does work. At night when everyone is asleep, take a couple gallons of motor oil, take the oil and pour it around the foundation of the house. This is a home remedy and it does work. Ants will not cross over oil. After you do that, get some ant traps. Ant problem will be solved.
Please give suggestions guys because I don't want to waste money franchising on a food cart.
Thanks!
In my opinion, because food is easy to prepare and is readily available, these would be:
Bread (like Julie's Bakeshop)
Fruit Shakes
Dimsums and Dumplings
Donuts
Fishballs and French Fries
I dont know what you mean by a food cart eatery. I used to live in the Philippines and I recall carts inside the malls and carts in the streets as well.
I really like the bread and pastries that FRENCH BAKER makes. I dont know if they are still located at the ground floor in Megamall Mandaluyong. Love love them !
superheros?
Those were a special kind of people in New Orleans. Basically, food and necessities will be dropped from planes and distributed first come first serve.
Well you seen what happened during Katrina.
The lawlessness, rape and murder.
Now can you imagine it on a national scale
That is frightening
You won't need food when you've been vapourised in global thermonuclear war.
um, they won't. we will all have to fend for ourselves.
did you see what happened to the victims of Katrina?
Please find someone to come in daily or at the least every other day to feed your cat and give it fresh water, clean the litterbox and play with it.
that is WAY WAY WAY WAY too long for a cat to be left alone for. 48 hrs is too long. if you can't find someone to come into your home to take care of your cat you should find somewhere to board your cat, maybe the vet's office will do it or know of a good place.
A day or two is the most you should leave your cat at home alone. Three weeks is way too long. What about the cat litter!? Three weeks of uncleaned cat litter is disgusting...the poor cat would probably start peeing all over since the litter is so gross. Don't you have a friend who can watch it? If not, board the poor thing, don't leave it home alone for that long.
3 weeks is a really long time to leave your cat at home alone. once it's litter box gets full, it'll start peeing and crapping all over the house. get a friend to watch it for you or look into pet hotels.
Please, please, don't just leave your cat alone for three weeks, even if you think that you've left it with enough food for this time, it won't regulate its food to last three weeks, and what you are suggesting is in fact neglect. You must have a neighbour or friend who would be willing to pop in daily to feed it, or if not book it into your local cattery, also there are often ads in the local papers for pet sitting services.
Portion the food out equally into 21 bowls but make sure you label them "Monday", "Tuesday", "Wednesday" etc.
You can leave a cat alone for a weekend, but leaving it alone for 3 weeks is too long as the food will go stale or bad if it's left out that long, also the water won't be nice left out for that long, and the cat tray will be too dirty for the cat to use it. The best thing is if you can get a friend or relative to go in every day and give the cat new food, water and take clumps out of the tray and clean the tray out as necessary. Also the cat will appreciate the company of seeing someone and having someone to play with it (even if the cat doesn't show this!)
This Is An Extremley Stupid Idea ... Why Dont You Ask A friend Or Family Member To Look After Her ... Or Even Your Neighbour To Go In Once A Day And Feed Her ... Or You Could Take Her To A Cattery For Three Weeks ...
no dont do that put it onto a cattery plz it will die the food wont last 3 weeks and will go off or mice or rtats will eat it and u dont want that plz mate put it in a cateery :)
Bad idea, no animal should be left to fend for itself, I always take my dog away with me even on business trips or home her with friends or family, cats are the same, please try and find someone to call in to make sure its OK, have fresh food and water.
You may find that the cat has got fed up with you and moved in with someone else by the time you return anyway.
Are you really this irresponsible? What happens if he accidentally tips over the water bowl on day 2. People are so stupid.
The obvious answer here is just don't leave the cat alone....Take it to a boarding facility...
You don't deserve a cat, give it to someone that does. How dumb can anyone be ?
3 weeks??? Dear, dear, no!! You can't do this with a cat you've had for years - let alone a cat you've only just gotten, who isn't used to his surroundings yet.
You should not leave a cat alone for longer than 2-3 nights really.
Either book him into a cattery (not my preferred option), or hire a pet sitter.
If you live in the UK, I can highly recommend Guardian Angels. They offer various services - either someone will visit your cat daily; live in your house and look after your cat; or have your cat live in their house whilst you are away. http://www.guardianangelservices.co.uk/
Your cat could get into a lot of trouble in three weeks and if nobody is there to check on him, you could come home to a very poor sight.
a lot!because they eat alot.Get a petsitter!
Well, if you leave all of the food out at once, the cat will eat it all before you come home. What I suggest is that you get these types of feeders which look like they have a water tank on it, and you fill it with food, and whenever the bowl get empty it fills it back up again. You can get these for food and water, just go to a petstore, or Petstop by you.
That or put it into a phasility where they take care of your cat for you (I forget the name sorry), and they your cat will get to play with other cats, so it will be very happy
That doesn't work you will need to ask someone to check and feed your car or put it into a cattery
You just cannot leave a kitten on it's own for that length of time. It is very cruel and if you cannot look after your kitten then perhaps you should consider giving it to someone who can. Book the kitten into a cattery and educate yourself on cats. You can get books from libraries and shops. Inside them you will find information, you need to read this information. Then you will realise how dumb your question is.
3 WEEKS? That's just too long. You're right the cat WILL mismanage the intake.. and may eat extra from boredom...and will run out of food and still have a week or more to go. Or could somehow get into a crazy cat mood and run around the house, knock over all the water the first week and then die of thirst.
Plus, what about the litterbox? How many boxes were you planning to leave for 3 weeks, considering a box really should be cleaned daily? The cat will get disgusted with the condition of the litter and will be pooping and peeing around the house. And that may be a hard habit to break when you return.
So just hire a cat sitter to come in every couple days (personally that would be my choice - -the cat won't have the stress of being taken out of its own territory) or else board the cat at a cattery or vet's office for the time you are away. If you do the cat sitter, and they don't come daily, make sure you set up extra water dishes and at least one extra litter box.
Please don't leave your cat on its own for three weeks. If you look up petplan on the net you will see you can get insurance for £9 per month which will not only cover illnesses, but will pay out £250 per year towards cattery fees.
You should think twice about gettin pets, you are not a reliable pet owner. Would you leave a child to fend themself for the full 3 weeks alone? No? Well cats and any animals are the same.
Please have the cat boarded through a vet or other reliable cattery. Better yet, pay a professional pet sitter to come in at least once a day to not only feed and water kitty, but visit with them as well. The litter box also would need to be cleaned and the auto feeder mentioned earlier is not going to do that. Auto feeders are for 2 or 3 days TOPS. How would you like to poop over and over again in a yucky mess for weeks and weeks. People often make the mistake of thinking cats are so independent they don't need anyone around, but this is highly inaccurate. If you're someone who travels and/or is working long hours, please do the right thing and adopt this kitty out to someone that is around more and understands critter care better. Cats are not as solitary as people like to think. =)
WHAT PLANET ARE YOU ON if your going away for that long you are going to have to put your cat into a cattery of get a neighbour or friend to go in and feed it.How would you like it if your owner left you with 21 day worth of food in a bowl and the same amount of water.INFACT IF THAT WHAT YOU WANT TO DO I PERSONALLY THINK THAT YOU SHOULD'NT HAVE A PET.i'm glad you don't live near me or i don't know where you live as i'd give you a piece of my mind and take the cat of you or report you to the r.s.p.c.a.
I really don't think you should leave a bunch of food out for your cat and go away for that long.
You must have a friend, or hire a pet sitter to come and check and feed your cat, at least twice a week.
Cats can go for about 3 days with a large bowl of dry, and a pet water fountain. They do NOT NEED canned food while you are away, they DO NEED their litter box scooped or changed every few days
Someone will need to come check on the food, water, and litterbox, not to mention your cat!
I wouldnt leave the cat home alone I would get like a critter nanny to come to your house every 3 days or so.
no... you should book your cat into a cattery and pay for someone to look after it. Be responsible, if you can't then at least give the cat a chance of a loving home and contact the RSPCA to rehome it.
First of all, you should really try to get someone to sit your cat for that legth of time. That is a long time to be away for an animal, even cats. How do you plan on managing it's litter? 3 weeks is too long to go without cleaning it. Cats only eat enough to fill their bellies, so if you put out enough food, he'll be ok there. But the water is a different story. I have 3 cats (and I'm a Vet Assistant) and they all manage to get stuff into their water and then won't drink it after that. So you may need to have more than one water dish too. It would be a really good idea to at least have someone come and check on ur cat once a week while ur gone. And also be prepared for ur cat to be a little vengeful in your extended absence. Good luck!
Pamela
That is a stupid idea. You CANNOT leave a cat for three weeks. It will eat all the food as it doesn't know he/she will have to save it for three weeks plus you are suppose to give cats fresh water everyday. What about the cat litter when will that get changed? What will happen if the cat gets hurt while you are away? If you can't keep a cat which you obviously can't they give it to a decent home that can provide the love and comfort it needs.
that would be very irresponsible. don't you have any friends to come and look after the cat!?
~DONT leave ur cat home alone for that long its just a stupid idea, the cat food will go off and make ur pet ill!! a cat need FRESH food and WATER EVERY DAY!!!
You wanted a pet you look after it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!~
Do not feed your dog bones, especially cooked bones. Fragments can become lodged in the digestive tract. Canines in the wild who eat bones have the benefit of consuming hair and hide too, which have been found to â˜padâ™ the bone fragments and aid in their passing. Other foods to avoid that are dangerous for dogs are chocolate, avocados, mushrooms, macadamia nuts, grapes, raisins, onions, and garlic.
Try one of these easy dog food recipes and watch your pup smile.

raw meat ie. beef chicken lamb... with cooked vegies with pasta and rice and a good dry food.whole chicken carcasses.ox cheek, heart.
Had dogs 40 years
Eating the others food once in a while wont do any harm.Dont encourage it or let them, because as you mentioned their nutritional needs are not the same,A strict diet of cat food for a dog,or vice versa would not be healthy at all,but if your dog ocassionally sneaks a bit of the cats food, you have nothing to worry about.
i used to know an extemley smart dog(seeing eye dog) that would sneek(yes sneek) under the table to get to the catfood.
she loved that catfood. every time she did the owner would yell and she would run. she dog knew it wasnt allowed but still always did. so im assuming that catfood is more meaty(since cats are REAL picky) and dog food is more synthetic and cheaper.
Well, i didnt taste any of these things yet, but i will ask my dog.
just kiddin :)
cats food is more salty and very bad for dogs and puppies.also some cat foods have corn as an ing. and that isnt good for dogs digestive system
The smell?
Cat food is higher in protein and specially formulated for cats. Dog food lacks the nutrients cats need, but provides complete nutrition for dogs. Never try to feed a cat dog food, or vice versa. This is one reason dogs like to eat cat poo, because it is high in protein.
like you said there are different nutreints in cat and dog food. Dogs seem to like cat food better and cats sometimes like dog food better. There is no real harm in them eating the other once in a while. But dogs esp. puppies need certain nutreints as well as cats. this is what the food gives them. My dogs like cat food better and sometimes I let them eat it. If you are having problems with this then a good soulution is to mix the dog and cat food togeather evenly in their dishes. Slowly put less of which ever you dont want them to eat and that will help them get use to what they are suppose to eat.
Are you kidding me??? Dog food tastes completely different than cat food. I would eat cat food all the time if I could get away with it!!! But my owners think that cat food and dog food are specially formulated for our "nutritional needs". They are so boring!! I think I would be fine eating cat food all the time, really!
Believe it or not ordinary table salt and pepper work great, salt tends to dry the insects body quickly which they don't like and the pepper has a burn when they clean their legs again they don't like the spice, just shake on shelves in drawers and under cabinets...hope this helps good luck
cedar may help but it wont entirely deter them if they are already bad.
There is NO such thing as dry "diet" food for cats. Dry foods are filled with carbs that make your cat fat. You can't make a dry food without carbs, so there are no dry diet foods.
The proper amount to feed per cat/per day should be about 5.5 ounces of wet (high quality grain free canned or Raw Meat/Bones/Organ) food.
The calories in that amount of food are sufficient for most "normal" sized cats. Of course a highly energetic cat will need more food to keep it healthy, and a lazy cat will need less food to keep it from getting obese. But 5.5 ounces of wet food per day is a good place to start.
Here is a fantastic site that will help you learn about feline nutrition!
I usually just left dry food out for my cats. When I did give them canned food they always had weight problems. Best to consult with your vet.
You should free feed. that ,eans leave a bowl of food out so he regulates his own portion. If he is overweight get a a good diet food. Cats can tend to become overweight when portions are offerred because instead of grazing in small portions they will finish off the bowl since they won't get fed again for a "lomg" time. It may not really be a long time but the cat thinks that.......since he doesn't control it. This leads to fat cats......Just like when you control your kids food......and make them finish off their plate. You'll end up up with nuerotic and fat kids with food issues. A cat is meant to handle this.......unlike a dog.....who will eat until he pukes. Trust the cat....he is smarter than you give him credit for.
WEIGHT LOSS FOR CATS
Why do cats get fat? It can be a combination of issues, or just one. First the obvious - overfeeding. This may happen either because you're giving in to the begging or because you're free-feeding (keeping food available all day) and your cat is not self-regulated. The second reason is feeding inappropriate, low-quality food (most dry foods). The third would be medical reasons I'm not qualified to discuss, but they're rare. Most cats are fat simply because they're fed the wrong food and are fed too much.
Is it bad for cats to be overweight? Of course! It's very bad. It often leads to diabetes, not to mention that fat cats probably don't feel very cat-like. Who would when dragging around extra pounds?
Why is dry food bad? With very few exceptions, dry food is not appropriate food for cats. It's chock full of carbs/sugar, doesn't provide enough meat-based protein, and is often loaded with grains such as wheat or corn (which provide those carbs/sugars). Wheat, corn and soy are known allergens and in many cats will cause digestive upsets. Not to mention most also contain "meal" and "byproducts." Cats are obligate carnivores who need to eat a diet high in protein (from meat) and fat and very low in carbs. The mouse is the perfect cat food - meat, organs and bones, with perhaps a tiny bit of grains that may exist in the mouse's stomach. In addition, dry food leaves cats dehydrated. They do not instinctively drink enough water because they're designed to get it IN their food. This results in concentrated urine which can lead to all sorts of problems. And it DOES NOT CLEAN THE TEETH! Really - think about - does dry food clean OUR teeth? If it did wouldn't dentists prescribe cookies instead of brushing?
What should cats eat? Cats should eat a species appropriate diet which very much resembles Atkins (Catkins). A raw diet is the very best, so long as it's properly supplemented to meet a cat's nutritional needs. There are many raw feeding forums available through Yahoo Groups that one can join to learn more. The next best choice is a good quality canned food (or even a commercially prepared raw diet such as Nature's Variety). These foods will have meat listed as the first ingredient, will not contain corn, wheat or soy, may include organ meats, and will not list "meal" or "byproducts." See the What to feed link for suggestions. Additionally, the brand By Nature Organics is a very good food, and at 150 calories per 6oz can, is a very good choice for weight loss.
What about supplements for weight loss? The addition of L-Carnitine to a cat's diet may assist with weight loss. 250-500 mg per day can be added to assist with weight loss. It is probably best to start with a lower dosage until you see how your cat reacts.
How soon will I see results? Cats need to lose weight slowly, at the rate of no more than 1 pound per month, and often less. This is because rapid weight loss may cause hepatic lipidosis (fatty liver) which can be fatal.
In a nutshell, most cats are fat because they've been fed too much (free-feeding or indulging them) and because they're fed dry food which is NOT appropriate food for them due to the grain/carb/sugar content. Cats are obligate carnivores who need to eat a high meat-based protein diet, which is also high in fats and low in carbs.
Many vets, who are sadly ignorant on the topic of proper cat nutrition, will recommend prescription diet foods (usually dry). Cats are expected to lose weight on a starvation diet of 1/4 or 1/3 cup of food per day. Everyone is miserable in these situations.
The solution is to switch the fat cat (and any others in the household as well) to a good quality canned food. Because these foods are species appropriate, the cat will lose weight at a safe, slow pace (no more than 1 pound per month). Switching foods needs to occur slowly, and if you're trying to get a kibble junkie to eat canned food, that will happen naturally.
How much should cats eat?
This varies. Average cats may eat between 20-30 calories per pound per day. But note that that is IDEAL pounds. Using 25 calories per day for example, an 8 pound cat could eat 200 calories per day. By the same token, a cat who weighs 20 pounds but should weigh 10 could eat 250 calories per day. You multiply the ideal weight by the calories to arrive at that figure. When working toward weight loss, it's perhaps best to start at the lower end of the scale (20).
How do I find out how many calories are in cat food? See the link "Values in canned food." If it's not listed there, you'd need to contact the manufacturer.....I believe that link provides some help there as well.
That's it. Easy as pie. Not only will fat cats lose weight, but it and any others in the home will reap many benefits of eating a speciies appropriate diet.
See the links below for detailed information on this topic.
UPDATE: Poppy lost 5 pounds and Sophie lost 2 following this plan (from October to October). Each cat gets one can (5.5oz) of Nature's Variety Instincts per day. No one is starving or miserable. My vet is happy with her progress and so am I. Only 4 pounds to go!
Either cut down by 1/4 cup of the dry food and depending on the size can I had to cut mine down from the small 3 0z can of which I was giving him 1/2 the can down to 1/4 the can and 1/4 cup of dry everyday and not at the same time the soft I gave in the morning and the dry for a snack in the afternoon. Is he a neutered male? He should be put on a diet for his own health, I know its hard to do because you love him, but don't kill him with kindness.
I also know of dogs that won't eat cat food for the long run (not mine though, cos they're pigs and will eat anything).
It would be good if a pet food manufacturer can answer this question. Is there some special ingredient you put in cat and dog food that makes cats and dogs know which kibbles is who's? Also, nowadays, dogs are eating fish too - like salmon. You can't say it's the ingredient. How come they know the difference?
They know, especially dogs. If you leave the cat food bowl on the floor the dog will go after it before it goes for the dog food. Cat food is higher quality ingredients than dog food, and dogs know this because after they try cat food they think it tastes better. Cats usually won't eat the dog food if it is on the floor because of the same reasons. They know the cat food tastes better as well. Here is a solution to keep the dog from eating the cat's food. Put the cat food bowl up on the counter top where the dog can't reach it. Only the cat can jump up there, and the cat won't go near the dogs food bowl on the floor.
Cats should NOT eat dog food. Read the label. Garlic is good for dogs. Garlic and onions are toxic to cats and in larger amounts, poisonous.
Many vet pages and cat pages reference this
http://www.cat-world.com.au/CommonProductsPoisonousToCats.htm http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070302005933AAmIpHe&kid=GK1XXHv.J2oroKVZqGNZ&s=comm&date=2008-05-17+07%3A53%3A56&.crumb=
I meant to say Read the Label of your dog food, most contain garlic, or garlic powder. I had asked my vet the same thing once because we have a cat who does like (a certain brand) dog food, so we had to find a brand she didn't like http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070302005933AAmIpHe&kid=GK1XXHv.J2oroKVZqGNZ&s=comm&date=2008-05-17+07%3A57%3A22&.crumb=
DONOT EVER LET YOUR DOGS EAT CATFOOD AND YOUR CATS EAT DOG FOOD.
It is really bad. i don't know why, but i had the same problem... my cat ate my dog's food, and my dog ate my cat's food. the vet said it's harmful. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070302005933AAmIpHe&kid=MoMoK220WGmyev2tS5zD&s=comm&date=2008-08-22+20%3A21%3A50&.crumb=
cat food has a lot more vitamins and minerals and cats can can tell the difference from the taste and the smell! if your dog i eating you'ree cats food you should stop it immediately because a dog's body can not take all of the vitamins and in long term it can cause kidney failure! http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070302005933AAmIpHe&kid=DLFoLnHJI0SsSMCea.Yx&s=comm&date=2008-10-17+02%3A05%3A01&.crumb=

Cat food has a lot more meat in it. The more meat in the food, the more they like it. My cats like dogfood because its forbidden fruit and I only buy pure natural brands which are made from real meat. http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070302005933AAmIpHe&kid=Orp3JDL4KjBbVDAMVbRr&s=comm&date=2009-02-03+17%3A09%3A44&.crumb=
cat food is very fatty dog food is very lean dogs love to eat the cat food cuz it is so fatty http://answers.yahoo.com/question/accuse_write?qid=20070302005933AAmIpHe&kid=AJhpKGX9IEv6ffDbLmxU&s=comm&date=2009-03-02+18%3A59%3A42&.crumb=
The formulation of pet foods requires that cat foods have different combinations of ingredients. This may cause a different smell and taste to the food.
also cats have an inability to produce tartarine, which requires that pet food manufactures provide an amount of this in there diet. this is not hte same for dogs, if you ask your vet they will advise you not to feed your cat dog food, due to this fact.
discuss this further with your vet at your next appointment.
They ask their friends.
They don't is the simple answer. I've fed my cat dog food and although she wasn't too keen on it, she ate it. I think it's to do with the density and bulk of the meat. If I mash the dog food for her she eats it. The dog just eats!!!
They are made with other ingerdents then just chicken. The cats can smell the difference
Even small dog kibbles are different than the ones made for cats - not just the ingredients (which is really important), but the texture and the smell too.
My dog will eat the cat food, my cats won't touch the dog food. Actually, I don't mind the catts not eating dog food, becasue they need differnt nutrition. There is stuff in cat food that they have to have, and I think it makes the cat food too rich for dogs.
stupid dogs will eat the cats food! a cat would never eat dog food.
They smell their food and walk to the other one food and smell
it. and walk back to theirs
The only time I have ever heard of anything related being a safety issue where food is concerned is when I worked at a summer camp one year. There was one boy who felt prejudiced because he was not allowed to wear nail polish while the girls in the kitchen were. He was told the reason he wasn't allowed to was because it might chip off into the food, even though there would have been the same risk from the girls but none were given any warnings about it, and plastic gloves were worn at all times.
I used to work at KFC when I was a teenager and if only I could find the handbook because I remember reading in there that we're not supposed to wear jewelry. Of course, it's one of those dumb rules that no one really follows. Kinda like those dumb laws that were made a long time ago. I think part of the reason why is because jewelry can spread germs and when you're preparing food, it could be possible to spread germs from your rings to the food, but that's a long shot. And I guess there's also the possibility that your jewelry could accidently come off into the food but that's a longshot too. It's just one of those dumb rules.
And since you mention wearing gloves....I've noticed that in places like McDonalds and Burger King, the people aren't wearing gloves when they're in the kitchen putting together burgers. It really bothers me too.
J
Food and jewelry does not go together, it either has to be covered with gloves or a band aid otherwise it is a health issue, how would you like biting on a hunk of metal
I work in a bakery-deli and the rule is no jewelry except for wedding rings. Someone lost the back of a earring in something so the rule was made.
Hi there ...cats who eat dry cat foods tend to suffer from recurring episodes of feline lower urinary tract disorders (FLUTD) and this seems to be a common denominator with cats diagnosed with various types of FLUTD's. The idea is to acidify the urine (like cranberry juice does for humans) because cats with FLUTD disorders have urine pH that is more alkaline so your goal is to reverse this and canned foods have been known to achieve the results.
Additionally, it's important to schedule feed a cat so you can monitor servings taken in during the day http://www.vet.cornell.edu/fhc/news/feed.htm which seems to keep the urine from becoming more alkaline.
Furthermore, for cats who suffer from FLUTD the hydration in the canned products helps metabolize food better and are also completely devoid of carbohydrates, which is more optimal for the feline's body and while at the same acidifies the urine pH which is perfect for cats who have FLUTD . When cats eat raw meat in the wild they get hydration from the fresh meat juices as well as some roughage from the animals who are natural herbivores. We are have been exposed to so many commercial ads regarding dry food for cats, but in reality it's the manufacturer's who benefit rather than the cats. Cats are not naturally designed to eat dry--the products were designed for convenience for the owner.
All seafood cat food products should be avoided as they are high in phosphorous and turns urine pH more alkaline so canned meat products should only be used.
Here are some websites that I've researched to help prepare us for the long road ahead to minimize the repeat episodes:
FLUTD/UTI:
http://www.holisticat.com/FusFaq.htm
http://www.hdw-inc.com/healthfus.htm
9 Lives has a special formula to prevent UTIs...worked for my persian.
Give your mom a high five for me!
You don't need to feed any special foods. For most cats, eating a wet diet will keep them properly hydrated, which in turn means their urine is dilute, which means there's less chance of things going wrong.
Wet food can be either canned or a raw meat diet. I'll assume you're willing to try canned.
There are lots of brands out there, but I only recommend the good quality ones - these are NOT to be found in the grocery store. Nor will you find anything good at PetSmart (last time I checked).
Check out the list below. Each food has a link to their website, and each site has a "store locator" so you can find where it's sold in your area.
A personal suggestion is to try Natural Balance. This food is sold (in Wisconsin at least) at Petco, a chain store. It's reasonably priced as well.
Azo
Just read the packages there are many available that state on the label that they help to prevent UTI's. If price isn't a problem try Eukanuba or Science Diet. If your on a budget like most of the country my cat likes Meow Mix's version.
Been there done that. My cat had a UTI and it caused it to pee everywhere. So I took her to the vet and he put her on "UR" (available at the vet's office) and it fixed her right up. It is a little more expensive but a lot cheaper than the carpet that we had to replace.
Good Luck with your little kitty.
Well definately dont feed any junk you get at the grocery store. Go to Petsmart and pick up some Nutro Natural Choice, Nutro Max. Or some ROyal Canin.
my male is 7 and other onw was 13 they never had,i fed science diet
the best food to feed a cat to prevent uti's is Purina One for Urinary Tract health...I feed this to all my cats because one of my male cats had a horrible uti and the food the vet prescribed was very expensive, but when I found this food it was actually better and lower magnesium than what the vet offered at half the price (about $9 a bag for 7lbs) so now I feed it to all my cats they like it...it is made with turkey and yogurt....magnesium is the ingredient that you should look for and the content should be low and whatever you do dont feed your cat any soft food with fish or dont give your cat tuna they are both high in magnesium...when you give your cat soft food stick with the chickens, turkey and beef...and once in awhile i cook my cats chicken breast (broiled in the oven) good luck email me if you have any more questions
Feed him wet food in the evening and dry food in the morning. Buy him foods that contain cranberries or/and blueberries.
Fast food consists of saturated fat deep fried in month-old grease by Captain Oblivious and crew. Slow food is made by people who would actually consider eating what they're making. Just my opinion.
I think fast food is the restr. that serve the same food across the US .
you know the ones where the hamberger tast the same in texas as the one in Main like Mc Donalds , Burger Chief etc. It might take a Mc Donalds 45 min to fix a hamberger . I would not call that fast.
classy restaurant McDonald's that is the difference.
Fast food moves through you faster, as in diarrhea.
30 mins, duh...
Many of the less-exotic foods have already been claimed by other clubs (soda, donuts, burritos, burgers, caramel apples, apple cider, garlic/foccacia bread, fried chicken, fish balls, smoothies, pizza, sushi, tapioca). We are also not allowed to sell food cooked by ourselves.
What other food items are likely to sell well? By the way, I live in northern California, so the weather is always pretty mild. Thanks for any and all suggestions!
what about ice cream... or ice cream floats... when I was in school.. .we raises alot of money since the day was so hot.
hi indain tacos sell really good but there is cookin to it.
How about smoothies? I have seen jamba juice at high school events and they were selling like crazy.
grilled meat on sticks.. sorta like a barbecue, cotton candy, "snow cones", ice cream, rice plates (rice combined with something like chicken or beef or pork or seafood etc ala Yoshinoya), coffe stand (iced coffees, "regular", flavored coffees, ala starbucks) cakes and pies, chili......
i don't know about banana's
but strawberry's will do.
they're more popular and better known.
keep in mind you could do white or milk chocolate.
you can also maybe use marshmellows
and/or cookies.
one idea that i always sell for fundraisers that i particpate in?
if you're able to have a microwave this could work
i heat donut holes, then lightly roll on a thin suagr coating
place into a cup, put a scoop
or so of vanilla (any flavor would do)
then allow them to top with whatever they like
such as fresh fruits, sprinkles melted chocolate etc
btw
what kind of fundraising event
sells stuff that you can't make!?!?
---itsn't making chocolate covered whatever still considered cooking?
What about simple nachos? Just chips and cheese... or maybe Fritos in small sized bags split open with nacho cheese ladled on...these are usually a big hit especially with teens..messy, but delicious!
The best food for them has the first one or two ingredients as meat or poultry. I have 4 cats and they are all indoors and the indoor formula doesn't seem to have the meat. Any how, I would either mix their favorite with the other. My cats do the same thing and when it is mixed they need to slow down to dig it out.
feed them in portioned sizes throughout the day not a big wad
I'm raising my kittens on my own for the 1st time. I see they like the canned stuff but it's served as a treat on an unknown basis. i keep purina pet chow out at all times. they seem to like it. They can eat all they want but apparently they won't eat enough to puke.
You should stick to one kind of cat food. Changing back and forth might be what is making them sick. If sticking to one kind does not work I would call your vet.
if it's dry food, sometimes it's so small that if they eat in a hurry they swallow it whole, and it upsets their stomach. i had a cat that did that, and couldn't figure it out until someone told me that, and i changed to a food that had larger pieces of kibble, and it solved the problem.
Just control their portions so they can't overeat. Keep one bag around and give them small portions along with their regular food, but don't give it to them as food, just as a treat.
If you just give it too them in small amounts, you shouldn't have a problem. They are just gorging themselves and getting sick.
If a certain cat food causes your cats to puke,i would refrain from buying it,and look for a "NEW" favorite for the cats.
Also,to prevent hairballs so often, brush the cats at least once a week. Most LOVE it! And it cuts way back on hairballs. :)
They just heated up the food. Nothing about it is homemade.
I'm actually a pretty good cook and baker. I'm still learning and I don't say everything I cook turns out perfect the first time, but it is at least decent most of the time. Cooking and baking is my dream, but I don't expect everyone else to like it that much so if they want to make microwave meals all the time, they can. I just hope they don't consider it actual cooking.
I love making spaghetti pie, sloppy joes, chicken and noodles, vegetable lasagna, pizza, stromboli, meatball subs (homemade meatballs, homemade sauce), taco soup, quiche, pancakes, French toast, black bean soup, zuppa tuscana soup, chicken curry, lemon glazed shrimp, parmesan crusted tilapia, chicken and rice casserole, muffins enchiladas, turkey or chicken empanadas, rice burritos, taquitos, and of course cookies and brownies!
I don't go around judging people, on what they can make and what they do make, to be quite frank , also due to busy schedules, people have, and to be anal, about how its prepared, is a tad bit shallow in my opinion.
I have yet to encounter a recipe I could not make.
Everything...I learned to cook at age 7.
I can make baked mac and cheese from scratch...i can make snickerdoodle cookies...i can make spaghetti sauce (not from the jar)...i can make Alfredo sauce (not from the jar)...i can make green bean casserole...tuna caserole...i can make a lot of things.
For some people it's easier to get something they can just stick in the microwave because it tastes better than whatever they'd make or because they don't have the time to make it.
I sometimes make something called milk rice. It's a german dish. When I say I can cook I don't just buying frozen food and siking it in the microwave. I can even cook steak(favorite food), pancakes, or even raviolii and not the can kind.
Not everyone can cook - if everyone could cook than why would we need chefs and restaurants.
My mom's specialty when I was growing up was opening a can of tomatoe soup and adding cooked hotdogs. We called her the microwave queen. My dad on the other hand could cook the entire Thankgiving dinner without any help...
Me, I got a little of both, somethings I can make from scratch, somethings I would rather just pop in the microwave...
i don't like eating out of cardboard freezer boxes.
I make my own pasta's (stuffed shells, manicotti, lasagna, chicken Parmesan over linguine, chicken marsala, chicken picatta...) i'm italian, OK?! :D
I do homemade mashed potatoes, sweet potatoes, hawaiian chicken dishes, stir fry's, fresh string bean casseroles, my family, great grandparents were from europe and always did the whole cooking thing, she would feed me as a baby until I threw up but that's what made her happiest, cooking a million dishes for her family. so her recipes were handed down to me, traditional turkesh, greek, italian foods..
depends how you're raised. a lot of people know nothing about food at all besides mc. donalds and taco bell.
eggs pancakes food
is this cheating? im a chef, trained as an apprentice, educated at a cooking school, and i've been working as a chef for about 12 years after my schooling. so you give me food and i can make something out of it.
I can make almost anything in my cookbooks and combine recipes or invent my own if I want something specific. People are kinda losing that skill, though. I'm kinda concerned with the environmental wastes of pre-cooked foods. When I cook for myself I have almost no garbage, but the past week I've been too busy too cook and I filled my garbage can like three times. So much waste.
microwave food is discusting! all the goo on the side makes me want to puke. i make all my food from scratch. with the exception of bbq sauces and seasoning sauce. but I do make a wicked streak marinade/rub. i can make, lasagna, spagetti meatballs, shepards pie, creme brule (hate the stuff though), any dessert. pancakes, donuts, turkey and the fixings.
the best foods are fresh, like seasonal (pumpkin pie from a REAL pumkin none of that canned stuff)
i try and make everything from scratch. I have been cooking for 25 plus years now so cooking to me is almost instinctive. I try and tell people that cooking really isn't that complicated and to trust their own pallet, but that never seems to work. Lipton soup mix, a can of Campbell's cream o mushroom soup, etc, always seem to wind up in the recipe. Do you know how "difficult" Cream o Shroom soup is to make
saute up some shrooms in butter, remove from pan. Add 2 tbls each butter and flour (this is a roux). stir constantly for 3 minutes or so, darker will intensify the flavor. Add a pint of light cream and two cups milk, bring to a boil, reduce heat, return shrooms to the pan and let simmer for about 5 minutes.
.....and do you know how much better this will taste, less sodium.
No, I don't think they are too dumb, I think they are two lazy....people always seek the short cut.
My son was the same way. We got him more interested by giving him the apple flavored wagon wheels. (Available in the baby food aisle.) He loved the taste, and had to chew them.
see doctor
Oatmeal
gesh every thing has texture i dont know of any thing other than liquids keep her on stage twos till shes ready but make a big deal about how good solids are giveher a bit of bread after you taste it and say yummy
my daughter loved steamed broccoli and carrots...try that..as finger food...when you steam it it is soft...also gerber puffs...they are like cherrios but softer and disolve in there mouth
Give her those baby cereal puffs--they come in fruit and also vegetable flavor. also try bananas, oatmeal, mashed potato, sweet potatos, green beans, peas, carrots, and also butternut squash so she gets adequate nutrition.
very well mashed potato
Just because she doesn't LIKE different textures doesn't mean you HAVE to give into her DRAMA. Who is the parent? No I never had that issue because either my daughter ate what was offered or she didn't eat. Funny thing about kids...when they get hungry enough they will eat ANYTHING regardless of the texture.
eat breads, pastas, vegetables, red meats, fish
dont eat krispy kreme, McDonalds, ice cream
i know you said no junk food
but its true
junk food is bad.
yes
fast foods are d 1 dat u no need 2 wit 4,u just grab n go whereas junk food is something every1 knws is not good 4 dem but still likes dem coz dey r mouth wattering.it may or may nt also be any fast food or home made french fries...
To my way of thinking, all fast food is junk. Made to appeal to the lazy masses, with flavor enhancing chemicals that can only lead to other nasty things,(obesity, allergies, etc....) a Big Mac is not and never will be a garage burger. By the same token all gourmet food is not the world savior either, what we need is a healthy balance, "FRESH" foods, keep the scientists away from my food, they have engineered enough trouble already.
I would have to say that alot of foods would go into both catagories, however you are able to get non-junk food alternatives at fast food franchises such as the fruit and yogart parfait at McDonalds. If you are a chef I would assume you have knowledge on nutrition and should be able to make non junk food choices at a fast food place.
Good for you! You're doing the right thing.
I went through this myself, and it took me two weeks.
First, be prepared to waste a bit of money. And to be patient.
Buy several different brands of food, and get different varieties of each. Offer a bit of that, and if your cat responds to any, make note of the brand and flavor. It may be that he'll like venison or turkey, or perhaps he'll like any flavor from a certain manufacturer.
You are right to switch gradually. I think you could continue what you're doing - offer the dry food once per day - give him 1/2 to 3/4 of what he would usually get. You could even break that into two meals although I don't think that really matters.
By reducing the amount of food, your cat still is getting food but will also still be hungry. And hunger can be a great inducer to try new things!
You could also try mixing some dry in with the canned.
Basically, you're doing the right thing. Just be patient and try other foods too.
EDIT: Whoever told you this was on the mark! Don't worry about the uninformed opinions out here. And dry food doesn't clean their teeth; you don't have to worry about that myth either.

u should give ur cat dry food the only time in the cats life that u need to give the cat soft food is when their small kittens because their teeth aren't strong enough for dry food until their older but u shouldn't give them wet food because it can cause diaria.. but sometimes kittens can eat dry food but i recomend dry food
Cats really only need the wet food if they aren't drinking a lot of water. My cats get as much dry as they want and they get a can of wet every other day.
Who ever told you dry catfood was bad for your cats health is wrong. Even the vets who sell "special" cat and dog food sell the dry stuff. Dry cat food helps to keep the teeth clean, helps with fiber in diet, has all the essential vitimans and minerals. As long as your cat is healthy it can eat dry foor. There are also special types of dry food, for older cats, for kittens, for cats who need to lose weight. I have had cats for over 40 years and have always used dry food.
Cats usually like the canned food when they get used to it. Kibble is quite addictive. Just give her the canned food and no kibble. As long as she eats a little every day she will not be harmed and eventually she will just eat the meat and finish what is on her plate.
If she is an adult cat she should eventually eat a 5.5 oz can a day. Use some quality canned food that is mostly meat. Natural Balance has about five different "flavors". I also use CA Natural, Avoderm, Lick Your Chops, Innova, Felidae. By cans of all of those if you can find them so she gets used to variety. Blue Buffalo is high quality too. We just don't have it around here so I have never used it with my cats.
Stay away from Whiskas, Friskies, Science Diet, Max etc which use by-product meat.
When you open a 5.5 oz can in the morning always put the remainder in a pyrex dish for the evening meal. Meat that stays in the can can develop an "off" taste. Unless you are experiencing extremely high temperatures you can just cover it and leave it in a cupboard for her dinner. If you do refrigerate it you must warm it in a pan of hot water. Cold meat may cause her to throw up.
My cat's been eating dry cat food all her life. She WON'T eat canned food. I can barely even get her to eat a cat treat. lol. I don't think not eating wet food would harm your cat. They're kinda like small humans. They like some food and others don't eat all kinds of stuff....anyways. I used to have this cat that would just eat anything. Twinkies was his favorite. lol. Go figure.
Try Sheba cat food. She might like it.
Dry food is so much better than wet for your cat. It is good, though, if you can get her to eat a little bit of wet. Get some that is high in protein. She should be on a mostly dry diet, though. If she doesn't want the wet, don't worry.
I don't think you can change your cats preference or choice of food. Cats are very picky and very particular about thev foods they eat. That changes as the cat matures and gets older, much like humans. Good luck though.
My cats think they are getting spoiled if they get wet food. Dry food isn't really bad for your cat, it actually helps their teeth stay clean and healthy. If your cat only likes dry cat food I stay stick with it, it is cheaper then wet also.
Cats are meat eaters. Wet meaty food is better for them. Dry food can cause intestinal and constipation and kidney problems.
Slowly start adding canned food to the dry food and introduce it to him gradually.
have you ever noticed that cats don't chew very much...yeah so dry cat food is not good for their teeth. and wet food may not be better if the brand is the same. Most cat food brands cook the crap out of their food along with all the nutrients. Check out Dr. Pitcairns book for the real deal.
If your cat loves dry food, great! Let it eat it! Its cheaper anyway! Plus It helps keep teeth cleaner. But no reason your cat can't eat both. Another option is those Tender Vittles or whatever they are called. Its a softer dry style. Comes in little pouches. My grandma gives her cat wet food in morning and evening just like you said you are doing, and leaves the dry food out all the time as snack whenever she needs it. Plus If you were ever unable to get home at your normal time, your cat would atleast have that to eat till you make it back home. I advise both. PLus if you are worried about health then buy a better brand of food. It will have better nuitriants. Plus that will also give your cat softer shinier fur too.
Don't know who told you that, but dry food is better. My 17 year old cat has eaten dry food all his life. He is very healthy and never had a tooth problem. Or you could just go with both...Take care;^)
mix the wet and dry together.
Dry cat food is better for your cat. The dry cat food helps to keep her teeth clean. Talk to your vet they will explain all the good things that dry cat food will do.
put the dry food in the bathtub. after the cat starts to eat , turn on the shower..if you have a glass door enclosure , KEWL, otherwise close the bathroom door ..good luck.. food and bath at the same time!
well...YOU POUR WET CAT FOOD IN HER BOWL INSTEAD OF DRY CATFOOD..DURRRRRRR..why even ask a question like that?
only put out the wet cat food and not the dry cat food and once she gets really hungry she will eat it
eat some fruits or vegetables
junk food can also be very enticing, so, it's not a surprise when you sometimes find yourself giving in. Worry no longer, though, as there are several ways you can rein in your junk food cravings and, maybe, eventually, keep them away permanently.
1) Ignore them.
Although this is not as simple as it may sound, simply ignoring your cravings is not necessarily a bad idea. Whenever you are starting to crave for junk food, just try and not think about it and divert your attention to something else. If you just ignore it, it hopefully will just go away. Just like any other addiction, you just need to stay away from it long enough until your body gets over the cravings. They won't last for very long, so just be patient.
2) Substitute with healthy snacks.
One way of reducing your craving for junk food is by simply substituting it with another type of snack. Instead of eating chocolate chip cookies, why not try eating oatmeal cookies. Try to satisfy your craving by substituting your unhealthy snack with a healthy one. You can munch on fruits and carrot sticks whenever you have the urge to buy a big bag of chocolates and candies. Instead of eating what you are craving for, make a conscious decision to go for something healthier.
3) Drink lots of water.
If you drink lots of water everyday, you will always have that feeling of fullness. And if you always feel that you are full, then you can reduce the chance of craving for something to eat; thus, limiting the opportunity for your craving for junk foods to take effect. If you do not feel hungry, then your body will not have a need to want to take in more food.
Personally I would blend fresh fruit juices like grapes/apples/orange whatever suits your fancy and put them in those popsicles container (those plastic ones with sticks on them) and freeze.
So whenever i have a craving for ice cream, I'll have those instead.
Frozen grapes are not bad for snacks too.
And I think it helps to control your portions. So take out say maybe 10-15 chips or maybe 2 cookies and put it in a ziplock bag and restrict yourself to those only for that day.
or you can try some nuts like almond and chesnuts or maybe baked mini pretzels instead?
As for sweets, try a lollipop, it takes a certain amt of time to fin one so it'll hopefully calm your cravings by a little.
And maybe in between meals you can have a cup of yogurt or banana to fill you up a little?
I think it's difficult to completely restrict yourself from not eating junkfood just in a day, so best is to have small portions of your particular craving, just so that you don't binge.
Well i use to drink soda everyday, and finally decided to quit
Instead of drinking soda i would drink water, juice, or vitamin water
