What clothing fabrics shrink and which ones don't shrink?

What clothing fabrics shrink and which ones don't shrink?

What if it is 3 different kinds or half and half? Any advice in washing? I would guess hand wash may be the best besides dry clean?

Natural fibers will shrink. (cottons, wools)

Synthetics don't (polyester, acetate)

If you have a 50/50 mix then you should be able to wash as directed on the label.

*Also, fabric softeners won't work on synthetic fabrics.

Anything 100% cotton will shrink. If it is less than 100%, it will still shrink some. Use cold water to prevent further shrinking. Wool will also shrink, as Nellbelle7 said. Only wash it by hand or have it cleaned, depending on the label.

washing does not shrink fabrics

dryers do

hang them up to dry

It really depends on the garment. Some things are made out of material that has been preshrunk before they make the clothing. I always wash in cold water to make sure I don't shrink stuff. I do know that most things made of polyester or nylon don't shrink. Some cotton does if it's really inexpensive, but most cotton/polyester blends don't shrink much. Wool will shrink if it is put in hot water.

Cotton shrinks unless the label says it has been pre-shrunk.

If it is a combination, but the label does not say hand wash, then I would wash it in cold water.

I know 100% cotten will shrink. A cotton/polyester blend will not shrink.

It depends on the fabrics. Any garment should have washing instructions. Look for the label. Please describe the garment in detail. Is there any beading? What does the label say?
